Telehealth physical therapy has two payment options: insurance and direct pay. For those with health insurance, most major insurance plans will cover a portion of physical therapy treatment, including telehealth physical therapy. The other option is for a person to pay directly for treatment themselves.
The cost of telehealth physical therapy with insurance
Every insurance plan is different, but with Agile Virtual PT, most major health insurance plans will provide a copay for the initial visit and assessment, as well as the follow-up visits.
Check with your insurance provider for more details on your coverage and copays. While your existing plan may have these details, due to recent changes many plans are making adjustments and waiving fees to expand coverage. Contact your plan directly for the latest information.
Laws governing virtual care reimbursement vary in each state. In our experience, most health plans have covered these services however, every insurance company is different. We recommend checking with your insurance provider or the clinic prior to your appointment to make sure you’re covered.
Using HSA and FSA employee accounts
People can use their Health Savings or FSA to pay for telehealth physical therapy visits. Patients should also check to see if their HSA or FSA provider will cover an Agile Stay Well subscription as an eligible expense to help treat their MSK injuries.
Costs of paying directly for telehealth physical therapy
Agile Virtual PT accepts direct payment for our telehealth physical therapy services, if you do not have insurance or if your insurance does not cover it. An initial visit and assessment is $100 and follow-up visits are $70 per visit.
Is a prescription needed for a telehealth physical therapy appointment?
All 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the US Virgin Islands allow patients to seek some level of treatment from a licensed physical therapist without a prescription or referral from a physician. There may be some restrictions in your state but for the most part this means that you can now receive physical therapy, even virtually, without a physician’s referral/prescription. Check with your insurance provider for requirements prior to your appointment.
Telehealth virtual therapy is extremely accessible. All you need is a reliable internet connection, a smartphone or laptop with a camera, and enough space to move around. That’s it! If you’re ready to start moving without pain, schedule an appointment with Agile Virtual PT today.
