What can I expect from my first telehealth PT appointment?

Telehealth pt

While telehealth PT (physical therapy) has been around for a long time, many people are just now discovering it because of travel concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic. We understand that, as with anything new, you might have a lot of questions about telehealth PT.

Our team has seen telehealth PT help many people manage their pain and injuries, and we’d love for you to experience its benefits as well. To help you get started in your recovery journey, join us as we explore what you can expect from your first telehealth PT appointment.

What to expect from your first telehealth PT appointment

In many ways, your first telehealth PT appointment is not much different than an in-office appointment. The biggest difference, of course, is that your physical therapist cannot use their hands for examination and treatment. However, they are still able to administer an effective treatment through visual examination, verbal communication, and guiding you through targeted exercises, stretches and other movements that can help treat your aches and pains.

Everyone’s first telehealth PT appointment looks different depending on their needs, but generally you can expect:

  • A thorough examination of your condition, pain, strength and range of motion.
  • A review of your medical history and relevant personal factors, such as age, weight and activities you enjoy.
  • A recommended course of treatment, possibly including your first exercises or stretches.
  • A recommended set of exercises and stretches to perform on your own in between your appointments.

Additionally, your physical therapist may provide some guidance to help you manage life with your condition. For example, they may provide some diet and nutrition guidance as well as posture guidance.
